Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone
By Kat Rosenfield
Release Date: July 5th 2012
Number of Pages: 304
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile
SUMMARY: On the night of Becca’s high school graduation, the discovery of an unidentified dead girl left to bleed out on the side of a dirt road sends the town—and Becca—into a tailspin. Becca has always longed to break free from her small home town, but as the violence of the outside world creeps into her backyard, she withdraws and retreats inward, paralyzed for the first time in her life.
Short chapters detailing the last days of Amelia Anne Richardson’s life are intercut with Becca’s own coming-of-age summer, unfolding into the parallel stories of two young women struggling with self-identity and tense romantic relationships as the summer’s tumultuous events twist Becca closer and closer to the truth about Amelia’s murder.
The Girls of No Return
By Erin Saldin (Debut Author)
Release Date: February 28th 2012
Number of Pages: 352
Format: Hardcover
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books
SUMMARY: CUT meets HATCHET in this lacerating debut about girls, knives, and redemption.
The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area stretches across two million acres in northern Idaho. In its heart sits the Alice Marshall School, where fifty teenage girls come to escape their histories and themselves.
Lida Wallace has tried to negate herself in every way possible. At Alice Marshall, she meets Elsa Boone, a fierce native Idahoan; Jules, who seems too healthy to belong at the school; and Gia Longchamps, whose glamour entrances the entire camp. As the girls prepare for a wilderness trek, Lida is both thrilled and terrified to be chosen as Gia’s friend. But everyone has their secrets–their “Things” they try to protect; and when those come out, the knives do as well.
THE GIRLS OF NO RETURN is a bold and powerful debut.
I picked Rosenfield’s and Saldin’s novels because I’m not usually into books with too much raw emotions. I get drained whenever I read those. But since I’m trying to broaden my “reading horizon” starting next year, I guess it’s a good idea to give these books a try. Would love a great challenge anyway. 🙂
(P.S. The covers are just superbly awesome, no? ^_^)
What about you? What are you waiting on Wednesday? 😉

My WoW
My pleasure, Michael. 🙂
The Girls of No Return sounds great. I think the cover is a little creepy (I think its the dark water’s fault) but its definitely interesting! I just added Amelia is Dead and Gone a few days ago, its intriguing to read parallel stories and this one sounds a wee bit scary.
“Creepy” just about sums them up. Hehe
Thanks, Kai, for stopping by. You featured such awesome books. My wishlist is growing exponentially. 😀

Kim @ The Paper Planes
I’ve just recently “run into” these books myself, Kim. Thanks for checking out my WoW post. 🙂
These both sound SO good, I’m really eager to get my hands on them. I actually like finding books that drain me emotionally…. there’s something sadistically satisfying in having a novel rip out my heart and mangle it LOL. Fantastic choices!
Hahaha, “Reigning Queen of Absolutely Great Wow” – why, thank you! I am humbled. And feel incredibly pressured to keep it up *locks authors away in a dungeon so they write new books quicker* ;D
Some intense picks! They sound deep and intriguing!
