An Award! Thank you very much!

Mucho thanks to Aloi of Guiltless Reading for giving me this award. Am so happy that my grin has reached phenomenal proportions (just kidding..I’m actually not feeling well today but this award really made me happy). 😀

One with the Jellies

one with the jellies

It’s been a fun Sinulog weekend (getting soaked in the rain during the mass at the Basilica Minore Sto. Nino was part of the fun, too :D) for all Cebuanos and visitors from neighboring provinces or even abroad. Too bad though I can’t share any photos with you as we didn’t bring any camera earlier for the fear of pickpockets, snatchers and muggers. These bad guys must took after gremlins as they multiply when they get wet in the rain. Hahahaha

So on Sunday night, I saw myself chilling at home eating fruity Gel-a-Snacks killing time and watching Lost. I’m not much of a fan, really, but there was nothing else on TV. I missed the cooking shows because we got home late. Blame it on moi as I took my sweet time at Booksale in Fiesta Mall (oops..wasn’t I supposed to stay away from bookstores until an indefinite period? Hehe..See the A-Z Reading Challenge for explanation. ^_^ )

To cap this happy night were some really unexpected awards that Maura of Monster of Books gave to Pachuvachuva. I was beyond happy. 😀

one lovely blog award

So I’m passing on The Humane Award to bloggers who make this blogging business worthwhile and whose kind words just keep me going:

It was one fine night, indeed. 🙂

The Silver Blade Contest

The Silver Blade by Sally Gardner

A stirring tale of magic and revolution- fans of The Red Necklace won’t want to miss it.The year is 1794. With his beloved Sido safely in England and the Reign of Terror at its height, mysterious Yann returns to revolutionary France to smuggle out aristocratic refugees who will otherwise face the guillotine. But while the two are apart, Yann’s Gypsy origins prejudice Sido’s guardian against their marriage, thwarting their longed-for reunion. When Sido is kidnapped under strange circumstances, however, Yann must use all his strength and courage to outwit the evil Count Kalliovski, rescue Sido, and help save all of France.

The sequel to Sally Gardner’s highly successful The Red Necklace is up for grabs. See the rules:

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater GIVEAWAY

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf – her wolf – is a haunting presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human — until the cold makes him shift back again. Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears and the temperature drops, Sam must fight to stay human or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

Let me start off my first entry with a very big shoutout:
Happy, happy new year!!! And a happier and more fulfilled us in 2010! 😀

2009 has been amazing for the most part because of the trips I’ve made and the experiences I’ve gone through. But as a blogger with sporadic entry postings, I would like to say that I’ve had the most fun last year. I have met some very interesting people whom I would like to thank:

Blooey Singson of Sumthinblue.com for being such a wonderful blogger and friend and for seeing me during her brief trip to Cebu. It was fun except that my tongue would get twisted saying things in Tagalog as I’m not used to the language (gahi man gud ug dila ning mga bisaya..hehe). The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book she sent was an added bonus, too. I luv it. 😀

Maura K of Monster of Books for being an inspired blogger. It’s also through Maura’s blog where I won my first book, Suite Scarlett, and for that I’m always grateful.

Memory Arnould on Stella Matutina for being such a dear and writing those long book reviews and interesting trivia. I even got to beta read her novel that’s currently in the works and I must say I like it very much. But since I can’t blurt out my fave characters or parts without prematurely revealing the tasty tome, I’d rather zip my mouth for the mean time. *wink*

Issa Mojica of Reality Bites…Fiction Does It Better whose invite to join her book giveaway contest led me to win a fabulous copy of Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran. Salamat, salamat, salamat.

The off-the-beaten-path travel adventures of Christine Gilbert on Almost Fearless renews my belief that travel doesn’t have to be as mundane as getting a cup of coffee at some coffeeshop. I’ve subscribed ever since.

Carl Anderson of Stainless Steel Droppings for hosting the R.I.P. (Readers Imbibing Peril) Challenge annually. It was my first time to join last year and although I didn’t finish with flair, it was still fun doing it.

Natasha Maw of Maw Books Blog for continuing to promote authors by churning out well-thought of reviews. (Yes, I am a subscriber, too.)

Peter Sandico, the KyusiReader from the crazy corner of the world called Manila, for his eclectic musings and his cool bookshelf project.

Lauren Rusiloski of Lauren’s Crammed Bookshelf for feeding my love for young adult books with her reviews.

To all my friends who do what any friend would when they receive emails announcing new post from me: to click on that link and make Pachuvachuva happy. *insert big hearty laugh here*

To current and future readers and visitors, you make my day with your comments and questions and every visit means a lot to me. I can’t promise that Pachuvachuva would be any greater in 2010 than it was in the past year but what I can promise though, every good change stems from my desire to give the best to you.

As my friend Estrella would say, “All the best in 2010. Cheers!” 😀

P.S.

Life Is Suite and Scarlett

You know a day will be great when you start it well with a smile. But on a special day like this, I hid away my cute grin and put on my 10-megawatt smile on display instead because of a really great news I got so early in the morning (see this blog’s about page for the announcement).

Yours truly won a suite – not just to stay there for a few days but to own it for as long as I want!

No room service though for this paperback. 😉

By some serendipitous event, I stumbled upon the Suite Scarlett Paperback Book Giveaway Contest hosted by Monster of Books, a book blog on the best of YA (young adult) books by Canada-native Maura K. And not a day more since the deadline was yesterday, July 13, 2009. So with fingers crossed, I typed my entry form and pressed send hoping against hope I’d win. And yes, I did! (Thanks to Maura and to my lucky charm! 🙂 ). Suite Scarlett will be my first, yet definitely not the last, Maureen Johnson book and I can’t wait to hibernate (if such a thing were ever possible in a tropical island) and read it.

Blogging for three years now, Monster of Books has just been blogroll-ed on Pachuvachuva. Check out my sidebar under Of Books & Words.

I would like to thank Monster of Books for the original image that was edited by yours truly for the purpose of this entry.
